Women's Tennis Splits Busy Sunday, Shuts Out Fredonia State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Allegheny College women's tennis team split a pair of road matches on Sunday, as the Gators fell to Division II Daemen University, 6-1, but swept Fredonia State by a 7-0 final score.

The busy day began in the Buffalo suburb of Sweet Home and Sweet Home High School, where the Daemen Wildcats hosted the Gators. Allegheny's only point against the D-II Wildcats came at No. 4 singles, where first-year Nicole Serna Cassan (Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico/Grandview Preparatory (Fla.)) won a tiebreak set over Carly Armitage. Serna Cassan also played a tiebreaker in her doubles match with Rei Etsumi (Honolulu, Hawaii/President William McKinley), but the duo fell in a nail-biter, 7-6 (3).

Allegheny then made a one-hour trip south to Fredonia and fared well against the D-III Blue Devils. The Gators not only earned the doubles point by sweeping all three matches, but also won 18 of the 19 games played. The only doubles match that did not end in a shutout was the No. 1 bout, which Omega Ba (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) and Etsumi claimed by a 6-1 score.

Serna Cassan, who picked up her second singles win of the day, and Maria Lounder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area) were both victorious without dropping a game in 6-0, 6-0 performances.
