GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's tennis team traveled up and down I-79 on Saturday and came home with two key victories over Grove City College and Penn State Behrend.
In the morning, the Gators (7-1, 6-0 PAC) trekked south to Grove City and handed the Wolverines (9-1, 6-1 PAC) their first loss of the fall campaign, 5-2. Allegheny then headed north to Erie and swept Penn State Behrend (11-4), the top-seeded team in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC).
Combined, the Gators won 15 of their 18 total matches. Although Allegheny blanked Penn State Behrend, Grove City took the No. 2 doubles match and battled to win the top two singles contests in a third set and a super tiebreaker.
Chanel Brun (Aix-en-Provence, France/Fox Chapel (Pa.)) and
Claire Terefe (Dallas, Texas/Texas Online Preparatory School) both ended the day undefeated at 3-0. After playing in the third and fourth spots, respectively, against the Wolverines, both first-years slid up one spot in the lineup against the Lions. Brun beat Behrend's Enisa Siljkovic, 6-1, 6-1, while Terefe defeated Lexa Maloney, 6-0, 6-1.
