WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Allegheny College traveled to Washington and Jefferson College on Tuesday evening to complete its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match that began on September 19, with the Gators securing a 7-0 victory after sweeping the singles competition.
A little more than two weeks ago, the Gators (5-1, 5-0 PAC) earned the doubles point by winning all three matches at the Robertson Athletic Complex. However, the singles matches were postponed due to inclement weather. When Allegheny visited W&J (6-2, 2-2 PAC), the Gators officially handed the Presidents their second loss of the fall while remaining undefeated in conference action.
The top doubles team of
Gabrielle Bassette (Miami, Fla./Miami Country Day School) and
Claire Terefe (Dallas, Texas/Texas Online Preparatory School) handed W&J's Claire Loomis and Keiran Moorhead their first PAC loss of the fall in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (8). Bassette then beat Moorhead in the No. 1 singles match, 6-4, 6-1, while Terefe defeated Maya Hamade in the No. 3 contest, 7-5, 6-2.
Adriana Navarro (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/DelCampo School) teamed with
Evie Ellenberger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) for a 6-1 triumph at No. 2 doubles, then won 12 of 13 games played in her singles showdown with Austyn Paugh, 6-1, 6-0.
