Box Score STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- On Wednesday evening, the Allegheny College women's tennis team outlasted Mother Nature long enough to earn a 5-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) over Franciscan University.
Although the first and third singles matches were unfinished due to wet conditions, the Gators (9-1, 6-0 PAC) won their sixth consecutive conference match. It's another key PAC victory over a Franciscan (6-2, 2-2 PAC) team that has reached the PAC finals in 2022 and semifinals in 2023.
The Gators clinched the doubles point by taking the first and third matches. Atop the lineup,
Julia Müsseler (Munich, Germany/Käthe-Kollwitz-Gymnasium) and
Evie Ellenberger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) remained undefeated as a duo with their fifth win by a 6-2 score. In the No. 3 spot,
Emiliia Grydnieva (Kyiv, Ukraine/Optima) and
Adriana Navarro (Distrito Central, Honduras/DelCampo School) picked up their second win of the season, 6-3.
Junior
Maria Lounder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area) was the first to complete her singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Müsseler blanked her opponent, Olivia Colby, in the opening set en route to a 6-0, 6-2 victory. The match-clinching singles point came from
Alejandra Villanueva (Bogotá, Colombia/French Touch Academy) in the fifth position, 6-1, 6-2.
