IRVING, Texas -- The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced today that Allegheny College's Carson Messemer (Schenectady, N.Y./Schalmont) is a semifinalist for the 2024 William V. Campbell Trophy, college football's premier scholar-athlete award.

Messemer was one of a record-setting 203 nominees for this year's edition of the Campbell Trophy. Celebrating its 35th year, the Campbell Trophy "recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance, and exemplary leadership."

The NFF will announce the finalists on October 23, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2024 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. One member of the class will be declared the winner of the 35th Campbell Trophy at the 66th NFF Annual Awards Dinner and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.

To be eligible for the Campbell Trophy, a student-athlete must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a minimum GPA of 3.20, have outstanding football ability as a first-team player or significant contributor, and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.

Messemer, a four-year starter, has been an anchor on the offensive line throughout his collegiate career. A 2022 All-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Honorable Mention, he was part of the Allegheny line named to D3football.com's Team of the Week following a Week 1 overtime win at Waynesburg University last fall.

In the classroom, Messemer is a Distinguished Alden Scholar who majors in Global Health Studies with a minor in Economics. He's also a two-time PAC Fall Academic Honor Roll and College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selection. Messemer, a member of the Allegheny College Choir, also helped write and edit a public health comic book for the 2023 Immunity is Community Health Fair.
