PAC Release
TRAFFORD, Pa. -- After winning its first conference championship in 18 years in the spring, the Allegheny College men's golf team was selected No. 1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll for the upcoming 2024-25 campaign.
It marks the second consecutive season in which the Gators were picked as the favorite to win the PAC title. Allegheny proved the voters correct last season after edging second-place Washington and Jefferson College by three strokes in the spring portion of the PAC championship, resulting in an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships in Las Vegas.
In this year's poll, Allegheny earned the max of eight first-place votes and 64 total points. The Presidents from W&J received the final first-place vote and 52 points. Westminster College and Grove City College were close behind in third and fourth place, respectively, with 49 and 48 points.
Of the student-athletes included on the PAC's Players to Watch List, two are Gators, headlined by
Carter Hassenplug (North East, Pa./North East). The back-to-back PAC medalist and Player of the Year is one of four All-PAC First Team honorees from across the conference back for the 2024-25 season. He is joined on the watch list by
Zachary Melzar (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional), an All-PAC Second Team selection after tying for sixth place last spring.
