NEW ORLEANS -- Three members of the Allegheny College track and field program were announced as All-Great Lakes Region award winners by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The top five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors. For the Gators, each of their four award-winning marks are among the top three in school history in their respective events.
Aaron Moon (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock) represented the men's track and field team with two All-Region selections. The junior transfer was third in the Great Lakes in the decathlon with 6,244 points, the third-most in Allegheny history. Moon achieved his award-winning score while earning the top spot in the decathlon at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Outdoor Championships last week. In the long jump, Moon was fifth in the region with a mark of 7.14 meters, a new team record.
At Allegheny's annual home meet, the Marty Goldberg Gator Invitational,
Laila Davis (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) achieved a personal record in the hammer. The junior thrower cleared 52.55 meters, the third-best mark in the Great Lakes and the third-best in program history. Davis' PR was a mere three inches shy of qualifying for this year's NCAA Championships.
A two-time All-Region honoree,
Elizabeth Lubold (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) was recognized for her performance in the javelin. A national qualifier, her personal record of 42.07 ranks third in the Great Lakes, third in team history, and 16th in Division III. Lubold will compete at the NCAA Championships on Thursday, May 23, at 11:00 a.m. at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
