Softball Earns Three All-Region Honors

NFCA Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Allegheny softball team had three members named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Third Team for their performance during the 2024 season, which saw the team win 26 games.

Pitcher Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore), right fielder Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) and designated player Sophia Godzak (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) earned the accolades. All three previously earned Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) First Team honors.

Belardinelli was named the PAC Pitcher of the Year after winning 12 games this season while posting a career-best 1.91 ERA. She was near the top of almost every statistical pitching category in the conference. One of the biggest moments of her season was a no-hitter thrown against Thiel. She also recorded her 300th career strikeout against Franciscan and finished the season third all-time among Gators in that category. Belardinelli also hurled one-hitters against Waynesburg and Westminster, and three two-hitters, including one against 19th-ranked Lebanon Valley. In five different games she struck out 10 or more batters, matching a career-high with 13 against Chatham in just six innings. Those performances helped her garner three PAC Pitcher of the Week honors. The junior also excelled at the plate, picking up 37 hits and 11 RBI.

Phillips was one of the most consistent hitters in the PAC this past season. She finished third in the conference with 52 hits and was fourth with a batting average of .413. Of those 52 hits, 11 went for extra bases including eight doubles, a triple and a home run. Phillips scored 32 runs while driving in 20 more. She had 16 multi-hit games, including five games with three hits.

Godzak excelled at the plate once again in 2024. With a batting average of .380, Godzak had 49 hits with six doubles and a home run. She drove in 22 runs and came across the plate 15 times. In games against Otterbein, Chatham and St. Vincent, Godzak went a perfect four-for-four from the plate. That performance against Chatham also saw her season-high in RBI with three.
