Softball Splits Non-Conference Twinbill at Pitt Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team traveled to Pitt Bradford for a non-conference doubleheader Thursday (April 23), splitting the games with the Panthers. 
 
Allegheny won the first game 16-3 before falling in game two 4-1.
 
Game One - Allegheny 16, Pitt Bradford 3 (5 innings)
 
After a scoreless first inning, the Gators scored three times in the second. Lauren Folino (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) doubled to get the inning started. Later in the inning, an error allowed Folino to score. A Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) single then scored both Rachel Seneca (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and Alaina Sharp (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County). 
 
The Gators had a big inning in the fourth, scoring 12 runs on 11 hits. Abby Robinson (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) had two hits in the frame, driving two runs in. Mackenzie Keber (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge Area) doubled and had a RBI single. Avery Magee (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) also had a double and a single, bringing two runs in. Morgan Kinney (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) drove in three on a pair of singles. Samantha Foley (Fombell, Pa./North Catholic) had a two-RBI double while Folino had a sacrifice fly. Seneca doubled in the inning and Sharp singled.
 
Allegheny tacked on an additional run in the fourth when a sacrifice fly by Robinson brought a pinch running Kassidy Samuelraj (Solon, Ohio/Solon) home.
 
The Panthers scored once in the fourth and twice in the fifth, but the Gators earned a 16-3 five inning win.
 
Inside the Box
  • Seven Gators had multi-hit games as seven of their 17 hits went for extra bases.
  • Kinney and Robinson both drove in three runs on three hits.
  • Folino doubled twice, scoring a run on a sacrifice fly.
  • Magee had a double, driving in two runs.
  • Phillips had a two RBI single while drawing a pair of walks.
  • Keber drove in a run on two hits with a double.
  • Foley drove two runs in.
  • Seneca had a multi-hit game, including a double.
  • Sharp had a pair of singles.
  • Kennedy Stahl (Warriors Mark, Pa./State College Area) picked up the win in the circle, allowing just three runs. 
Game Two - Pitt Bradford 4, Allegheny 1
 
The Panthers got on the board in the bottom of the first, scoring a run. They added another pair of runs in fourth as their lead reached 3-0.
 
The Gators got on the board in the fifth. Madalyn Myers (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) led-off the inning with a single, reaching second on an error. After moving to third on a groundout, Riley Lorah (Waterford, Pa./General McLane) drove her in for the Gator run.
 
However, the Panthers tacked on a run in the bottom of the frame and allowed just one hit in the last two innings as the teams split the doubleheader.
 
Inside the Box
  • Seneca, Robinson and Myers had hits for the Gators.
  • Lorah registered a RBI.
  • Samuelraj pitched the first 5.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits.
  • Madison Hulse (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) pitched the final inning in relief without allowing a base runner.
News and Notes
  • Allegheny is now 5-1 all-time against Pitt Bradford.
  • Keber and Lorah recorded their first career RBI.
  • Samuelraj scored her first run as a Gator.
