MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The Allegheny College men's track and field team earned one gold medal as part of 16 podium finishes at the 2024 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Outdoor Championships, held on Thursday and Friday at West Virginia University's Mylan Park.
As a team, the Gators placed fifth with 58 total points, just one more than the Titans from sixth-place Westminster College. Grove City College won the team championship with 164 points and held an 18-point advantage over Washington and Jefferson College.
Allegheny returns to Meadville with one goal, one silver, and three bronze medals, four of which were earned in the jumps.
First-year standout
Grant Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney Area) stole the show in the pole vault and secured Allegheny's lone victory. For the third consecutive meet, Miller set a new personal record, and for the second week in a row, he re-established the second-best jump in program history. The rookie cleared 4.51 meters, one-hundredth of a meter more than he did at last week's John Papa Invitational. No other PAC athlete reached the four-meter mark.
Competing in the pole vault for the first time since the 2023-24 PAC Indoor Championships,
Aaron Moon (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock) logged one of his six podium finishes alongside Miller. Moon also set a PR, one of four during the two-day competition, with a mark of 3.90 meters. The junior was second in the high jump (1.88 meters), third in the triple jump (13.15 meters), seventh in the 100-meter dash (11.17 seconds), and eighth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.21 seconds).
Miller and Moon also joined
Austin Stewart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) and
Carter Betz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) on the 4x100-meter relay team. The quartet placed sixth, but their time of 43.38 seconds was a season-best. Stewart also picked up a bronze medal in the 400-meter dash with a PR time of 49.24 seconds.
Defending PAC champion and All-American,
Jacob Boord (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield), persevered to make his season debut in the javelin on Thursday. Only eight weeks removed from surgery after suffering a near-season-ending injury during the indoor campaign, Boord was able to reach 50.55 meters on his third attempt and took sixth place. Despite being less than 100% and having little to no time to prepare, his result still ranks among the top 10 in the Great Lakes Region.
