SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's track and field team returned to the campus of Slippery Rock University for the second time this season to compete in the John Papa Invitational on Thursday.
While several Gators logged personal records, Allegheny's jumpers led the way with a few incredible performances.
Aaron Moon (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock), who broke the indoor long jump record in February, came close to the outdoor record, set by Andre Bryan '18 in 2015 (7.08 meters). Moon is only the second Gator in team history to surpass seven meters in the long jump with a mark of 7.03 meters, which came on his sixth and final attempt. The runner-up in the long jump, Moon also participated in the 4x100-meter relay, the high jump, and javelin.
The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Field Athlete of the Week,
Grant Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney Area), exceeded his award-winning pole vault from last week's Westminster Invitational. Miller set a new PR by clearing 4.50 meters, three-hundredths of a meter better than his mark at Westminster, and placed fifth.
The PAC Newcomer of the Week,
Jacob Williams (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds), set a PR in the triple jump at 11.91 meters, good enough for ninth place. Williams also took 14th in the high jump at 1.78 meters.
Allegheny's distance runners represented three of the top six finishers in the 5,000-meter race.
Sean Heintzleman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) made his season debut at Slippery Rock and placed third in his first competition since last spring's Marty Goldberg Gator Invitational.
Lucas Bradley (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) wasn't far behind in fourth place with a PR time of 17:43.30.
