Box Score MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match against John Carroll University, 8-1, on a cold but sunny Sunday afternoon at the Robertson Athletic Complex.
Allegheny (10-10) only captured one singles point against John Carroll (5-5), but several matches were highly competitive.Â
The Blue Streaks swept the doubles portion of the contest, but the Gators won four and five games, respectively, in matches at No. 1 with
Jean-Arlette Legrand (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville School) and
Sabrina Rodriguez (Kissimmee, Fla./Professional and Technical) and No. 3 with
Omega Ba (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) and
Rei Etsumi (Honolulu, Hawaii/President William McKinley).
Emiliia Grydnieva (Kyiv, Ukraine/Optima) won her second singles match against Evelyn Deren with a comeback. Grydnieva lost the first set but won the second, 7-5, and was victorious in the tiebreaker, 10-6.
Maria Lounder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area) went three sets with Sarah Sgambati in the No. 3 position but was unable to capitalize on her 6-2 first-set win.
