WAYNESBORO, Pa. --
A week after posting a career-best round of 66 at the Northeast Elite Invitational, Allegheny College senior Carter Hassenplug (North East, Pa./North East) added to his legacy by tying the program's all-time record at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic.

During Sunday's final round at the Waynesboro Country Club, Hassenplug tied the Allegheny record and set a new Mason-Dixon tournament record with an incredible 8-under 64. He began the day with a birdie on the par-5 first and an eagle on the par-4 second. Hassenplug started the back nine with birdies on three consecutive holes and four of the first five. The only hole that troubled Hassenplug on Sunday was the par-4 ninth, which he bogeyed in both rounds.

Hassenplug joins Chris Moore '09, former Phil Mickelson Award winner as the most outstanding Division III freshman, as the only two Gators to ever score a 64.

With a two-round total of 139 (-5), Hassenplug ended in a three-way tie for second place alongside Swarthmore College's Phelps Wang and McDaniel College's Charlie Dolan. Daniel Suter, who led tournament co-host Gettysburg College to the team title, posted rounds of 69 (-3) and 68 (-4) and captured medalist honors with a 137 (-7).

Out of 98 total competitors, Zachary Melzar (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional), Nadir Khan (Karachi, Pakistan/Karachi Grammar School), and Dylan Kochis (Saint Augustine, Fla./B. Reed Henderson (Pa.)) each placed inside the top 50. Melzar tied for 20th with a 147 (+3), Khan tied for 30th at 150 (+6), and Kochis tied for 49th with a 155 (+11).

Allegheny finished fourth in the team standings with a cumulative 590 (+14). The Gators edged both Swarthmore and McDaniel, who tied for sixth with scores of 591 (+15). The Bullets from Gettysburg were the only team below par and won the tournament with a 10-under 566.
