WOOSTER, Ohio -- Allegheny College men's track and field returned to action for the first time in 2024 by competing at the College of Wooster's Fighting Scots Invitational, hosted by Wooster on Saturday afternoon.
Of the five teams in attendance, Allegheny placed fourth with 82.50 points. The hosts from Wooster won with 160 points, followed by Denison University with 141.50 and Oberlin College with 122.
The Gator lineup, which featured many newcomers and first-year student-athletes, won two individual events.
Junior transfer
Aaron Moon (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock) was first out of six in the triple jump. He was the only jumper to surpass the 13-meter mark at 13.13 meters. Moon was the runner-up in the long jump with an All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Conference (AARTFC)-qualifying mark of 6.73 meters. He was also fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.85 seconds).
In his second collegiate meet, freshman
Grant Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney Area) won the pole vault by clearing 3.80 meters on his first attempt. Miller also competed in the 60-meter dash and was the second Gator to the finish line in the event behind fellow freshman
Carter Betz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood), who placed sixth.
First-year sprinter
Austin Stewart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) placed second in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes. His time of 23.17 seconds was a mere 17-hundredths of a second shy of Oberlin's Armand Andry in the 200. Stewart was just two seconds behind Oberlin's Sam Fechner in the 400 at 51.94 seconds.
Running the 3,000-meter race for the first time since 2022, senior
Colm Mulligan (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brookline) set a new personal record. He finished in 9:11.74, nearly 10 seconds better than his time from the Fight Scots Invitational two years ago, and was third overall.
Leading the throwers was another Gator rookie,
Trenton Heasley (Zelienople, Pa./PA Cyber). Heasley had two PRs in the weight throw and shot put. He was third out of eight competitors in the weight throw with a mark of 11.67 meters and seventh out of 18 in the shot put at 11.60 meters.
