MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's track and field and cross country teams had five student-athletes earn spots on the 2022-23 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
Megan Aaron (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley),
Lydia Giannini (Warren, Pa./Eisenhower),
Leuca Hanish (Baden, Pa./Ambridge),
Eva Kerr (Fredericksburg, Va./James Monroe), and
Nelly Stafford (Middletown, Md./Middletown) each received the honor.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by CSC, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 28.
The award requires a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50. Athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, and must have participated in at least 50% of the team's meets during the cross country or track and field seasons.
The five honorees helped the Gators capture three Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) championships in cross country and both indoor and outdoor track and field this year.
Aaron started the year by earning All-PAC honors after placing eighth at the cross country championships. At the indoor meet, she earned All-PAC honors in the 5,000-meter run with a third-place finish while also taking fourth in the 3,000-meter run. Aaron then captured the PAC title in the 10,000-meter run during the outdoor championships and followed up with another third-place effort in the 5,000-meter race.
Giannini won the PAC title in the weight throw at the indoor championships with a toss of 14.97 meters and finished fourth in the shot put. During the outdoor season, Giannini finished fourth in the discus and seventh in the shot put.
Hanish brought home First Team All-PAC honors in cross country after taking fifth in the championships, and also earned All-Region honors after taking 30th in the Regional Championship. She followed up with a fourth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run at the indoor championships. At the outdoor championships, Hanish earned All-PAC honors in the 10,000-meter distance race with a third-place finish while placing fourth in the 5,000-meter run.
A two-time all-conference, Kerr earned an All-PAC Honorable Mention distinction after finishing 18th while helping the Gators capture the 2022 women's cross country title. Kerr was also named Allegheny's 2022-23 Female PAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Stafford earned All-PAC honors during the cross country season after placing 10th at the conference meet. She then took fifth in the one mile and sixth in the 800-meter run at the indoor championships. She had similar finishes at the conference's outdoor meet, taking fifth in the 1,500-meter run and sixth in the 800-meter race.
