MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's track and field and cross country teams had five student-athletes named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team for their performance during the 2022-23 academic year.
Jacob Boord (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield),
Stephen Cullinan (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air),
Sean Heintzleman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston),
Jacob King (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and
Joe McAuliffe (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) were all honored.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by CSC, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 29.
The award requires a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50. Athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, and must have participated in at least 50% of the team's meets during the cross country or track and field seasons.
Boord recently earned All-American honors in the javelin at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships. During the season, he set a new program record in the event with a toss of 64.76 meters at the Ohio State Jesse Owens Classic. Boord also won the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship in the event, his third conference crown.
Cullinan won a pair of PAC titles in the pole vault this past season. He captured the indoor title with a clearance of 4.10 meters and improved his mark to 4.16 meters to win the outdoor championship. He also finished in the top 25 nationally in the decathlon, breaking the school record with 6,331 points.
Heintzleman earned first-team honors at the PAC Cross Country Championships in the fall. He finished the race fourth overall, helping the Gators to a runner-up finish as a team. At the PAC Outdoor Championships, Heintzleman carded a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run, once again earning All-PAC Honors.
King picked up the conference title in the weight throw at the indoor championships. His best throw in the event went 16.85 meters. He also placed in the top eight in both the shot put and discus at the PAC Outdoor Championships.
McAuliffe earned Second Team All-PAC honors in cross country. In the fall, he finished in 14th place. At the PAC Outdoor Championships, McAuliffe helped the 4x400 relay team take sixth, and he finished eighth individually in the 800-meter run.
