BEREA, Ohio -- Seven from the Allegheny College men's track and field team traveled to Berea, Ohio, over the weekend to compete in the 53rd Sparky Adams Invitational, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University.
The Gators earned one win, thanks to a personal-record effort from first-year thrower
Jonah Wells (Wyndmoor, Pa./Springfield Township). Wells was first out of 11 competitors in the javelin with a mark of 46.73 meters. Wells, who has added distance to his PR at nearly every event this spring, beat the next closest competitor by more than two meters.
The Gators also received PRs from sprinters
Joe McAuliffe (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) and
Eliel Cortez (Wylie, Texas/Wylie East). McAuliffe, who ran the 200-meter dash for the first time in his career, placed 17th out of 51 in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.85 seconds. Cortez's PR performance came in the 200, as he shaved one-hundredth of a second off of his previous best at 25.25 seconds.
Jacob King (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) posted a top-10 finish in the hammer. At 47.12 meters, he narrowly missed his personal record and surpassed 47 meters for just the second time in his career.
