MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The Allegheny College men's track and field program kicked off the 2023 outdoor season at West Virginia University's Stan Romanoski Open at the Mylan Park Track and Field Complex on Friday and Saturday.
The Gators secured two individual wins, including facility- and program-record performance in the javelin.
Mac Polny (Robinson, Pa./Montour) won his first-ever collegiate race in the 1,500-meter steeplechase. His time of 4:54.52 was more than eight-and-a-half seconds better than the runner-up from Frostburg State, Brandon Stein, who finished in 5:03.05. It was one of two events for Polny, who placed 16th in the traditional 1,500-meter race.
Allegheny's other winner was the two-time defending North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) javelin champion,
Jacob Boord (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield). He set a personal, school, and facility record on his first attempt, which traveled 62.72 meters. None of the remaining 27 competitors, many from Division II programs, were able to reach 55 meters.
Cole Jooste (Upper Saint Clair, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) and
Zack Wyse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) also provided top-5 finishes in the 800-meter run, as the duo finished back-to-back in fourth and fifth.
