Day Two Results
GROVE CITY, Pa. – Olivia Kraus (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) captured the 2023 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) 50 freestyle championship, highlighting day two of the conference championships for the Allegheny women's swimming and diving team on Thursday (Feb. 16).
Kraus had the fastest time in the prelims of the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.79, the only sub 24 second time. Her time of 23.90 in the finals won by a .4 second margin. This marks the first individual swimming and diving championship won by a Gator in the PAC since rejoining the conference this year. It also marked the first individual conference title for the women since Erin Ham won the 100 breaststroke at the 2009 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships.
The 200 freestyle relay started the evening for the Gators. The team of Kraus,
Maggie Baham (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen),
Katya Pryshchenko (Berwyn, Pa./Aim Academy) and
Jenna Halenda (Mars, Pa./Mars) placed third with a time of 1:41.91, earning 32 points. The relay team of
Josephine Reiter (Pittsburgh, Pa./CAPA),
Skyler Masse (Akron, N.Y./Akron),
Emma Afton (Brookville, Pa./Brookville Area) and
Anna Kohler (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth) earned 10 points in the consolation final by finishing in 12th overall.
The first individual event of the evening was the 500 freestyle. Pryshchenko qualified for the championship final, while Halenda earned the top seed in the consolation final. Pryschenko's time of 5:32.88 earned her an eighth-place finish and 11 points. Halenda won the consolation final with a time of 5:29.95 to earn nine points.
In addition to Kraus in the 50 freestyle, Baham, Kohler and Masse earned spots in the consolation final. Baham finished 11th with a time of 26.03 to earn six points, Kohler took 14th with a time of 27.31 to earn three points and Masse placed 15th with a time of 27.67 to earn a pair of points.
The evening concluded with the 400 medley relay. The team of
Ariana Clark (Freeport, Pa./Freeport), Reiter, Baham and Kraus finished third with a time of 4:05.28. The finish earned the team 32 points. The other Gator squad of Halenda,
Emily Spitz (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown), Kohler and Masse finished in 12th to earn 10 points.
After two days of competition, the Gators currently sit in fourth with 165 points.
The PAC Championships continue on Friday (Feb. 17) with the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 200 medley relay. Prelims begin at 10 am with the finals starting at 6 pm.
