ECAC Release

DANBURY, Conn. -- The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2023 Division III Football All-ECAC and year-end awards on Tuesday, which included two from the Allegheny College football team.

The 2023 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Newcomer of the Year, David Williams (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton), once again took home the top honor among first-year student-athletes as the ECAC Rookie of the Year. Wide receiver Declan O'Brien (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) was also included on the All-ECAC First Team.

Williams is the first Allegheny student-athlete to earn a major award from the ECAC and was only the second Gator to win the PAC's Newcomer of the Year award. An All-PAC Honorable Mention, the Florida native finished the 2023 season ranked 20th in Division III with 1.4 passes defended per game. The freshman corner back broke up 11 passes with two interceptions, one forced fumble, and 21 total tackles. His interceptions came in Allegheny's wins over Waynesburg and Thiel.

O'Brien has collected a litany of honors throughout his record-setting campaign. An All-ECAC First Teamer, the senior receiver was also named to the All-PAC First Team and D3football.com All-Region Third Team. Nationally, O'Brien ranks third in receptions per game (9.1), sixth in yards per game (122.8), and eighth in total yards (1,228). He is only the second Gator to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a season. In addition to tying the record for the longest touchdown catch in program history, he set a single-game record with 18 catches against Washington and Jefferson College, and broke season records for yards and receptions (91).
