PAC Release

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) announced on Tuesday that Allegheny College men's track and field thrower Jacob King (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) was named a PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Scholar-Athletes of the Month for December.

King joined Franciscan University senior Olivia Mete, the conference's female honoree, as award winners for December.

Each month, the SAACs at PAC member institutions are asked to nominate one male and one female student-athlete for PAC SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month consideration based on academic and athletic accomplishments. Nominees must be varsity team members in their respective sport and in their junior or senior year. Scholar-Athlete of the Month nominees must also have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher and be actively involved within their campus communities.

A senior from Latrobe, Pennsylvania, King opened the 2022-23 indoor track and field season at the Youngstown State University Icebreaker on December 2. In the shot put, he placed 19th in a field of 60 that included throwers from several Division I and II institutions. King logged the third-best distance among the D-III throwers at 12.67 meters. In the weight throw, he finished 10th out of 40 at 14.80 meters, his best mark of the season so far.

A chemistry major with a 3.85 GPA, King is a chemistry major and a two-time Distinguished Alden Scholar, which recognizes Allegheny students who finish the academic year with a GPA of 3.80 or higher. He has spent the previous two summers interning for Bayer as an industrial chemist and at West Virginia University in an analytical forensic chemistry lab. King was also a 2022 American Chemistry Society (ACS) national meeting presenter.

On campus, King is a member of the Chemii Club and volunteers at Grounds for Change. 

King is the second Gator to receive PAC SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month honors during the 2022-23 academic year. India McCruter, a junior middle blocker on the Allegheny volleyball team, was chosen in September.
