GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Allegheny men's golf team opened their 2022-23 season at Denison's Ted Barclay Invitational at the Denison Golf Club.
The Gators finished the 11-team event in seventh place with a team score of 450. Wittenberg won the event with a score of 426. The event was originally scheduled for 36 holes but was shortened to 27 due to rain.
Carter Hassenplug (North East, Pa./North East) and
Zachary Melzar (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional) paced the Gators as they tied for 21st-place. Hassenplug had rounds of 73 and 38 while Melzar shot 74 and 37.
Faaris Cheema (Dubai, UAE/Kings School Al Barsha) was just one stroke behind Hassenplug and Melzar as he finished in a tie for 28th with rounds of 73 and 39.
Tanner Sliker (Edinboro, Pa./Cathedral Prep) carded rounds of 76 and 40 to tie for 45th while
James Stoltenberg (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) tied for 55th with scores of 80 and 41.
Taye Pham (Davie, Fla./The Sagemont School) also tied for 45th with rounds of 81 and 35 competing as an individual.
Allegheny is back in action Sept. 11-12 at The Gauntlet at Dauphin Highlands Golf Club in Harrisburg, Pa.
