WOOSTER, Ohio – The Gators battled Wooster in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) women's lacrosse showdown that went to the Fighting Scots by a 17-11 decision on Wednesday night (April 20).
The score was knotted at 4-4 through 15 minutes of play, but a 7-3 advantage in favor of the Scots in the second period gave the hosts an 11-7 lead at halftime. The third quarter saw another Wooster edge, this time 4-1, as the Gators headed into the final frame down by a 15-8 count. The Blue & Gold would get as close at 15-11 after scoring the first three goals of the fourth, but Wooster would respond with insurance goals to secure the victory.
Lauren Petrarca (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal) led Allegheny with four goals in the match.
Grace Baginski (Lakeville, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) and
Senna Perelman (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) both added hat tricks.
Emily Herrold (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) was the lone additional Gator to find the back of the net.
Baginski and Petrarca led the team with three ground balls apiece, while Perelman was tops with three caused turnovers. Perelman and
Liz Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) both secured five draw controls.
In goal,
Sarah Thorman (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) posted 12 saves, her seventh match of the season in double figures.
The Gators remain on the road when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.
