MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's swimming and diving team faced a tough opponent on Saturday in Division II Clarion University, but managed to earn three victories in a 174-50 loss to the Golden Eagles at the Mellon Poll.
Sophomore
Jack Malnar (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) produced a first-place performance in the 100-yard freestyle race. Malnar was the only swimmer with a sub-50-second time, as he touched the wall in 49.87 to beat Clarion's Ryan Ehlers (50.36).
Malnar also helped the Gators (2-2) win the 200-yard freestyle relay. He swam the first leg of the relay with teammates
Jacob Anderson (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown),
Emmet Fluharty (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights), and
Emmett Manning (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel). The Allegheny quartet finished in 1:29.70, a mere 31-hundredths of a second ahead of Clarion's (2-1) top team (1:30.01).
In the 100-yard breaststroke,
Daniel Jackson (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) was victorious with a time of 1:00.85.
