WARREN, Ohio -- Carter Hassenplug (North East, Pa./North East) was one of four Allegheny College men's golfers to place inside the top 10 at the 2022 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Fall Championships, as the second-year standout was named co-medalist on Thursday at the Avalon Lakes Golf Course in Warren, Ohio.
Hassenplug, who was in third after the opening round of the PAC Fall Championships on Wednesday, finished the first 36 holes of the conference's four-round tournament with a 3-over 147 (73-74). He sits in a two-way tie for first place with Sam Napper of Westminster College.
Faaris Cheema (Dubai, UAE/Kings School Al Barsha) began the tournament with a tremendous performance on Wednesday. He ended the opening round in first place with a 2-under 70, thanks to five birdies and an eagle on the par-5 14th. Cheema ended Thursday in a tie with teammate
Zachary Melzar (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional), as both Gators tied for seventh place with a 10-over 154.
After climbing three spots on Thursday,
Bergas Anargya (Jakarta, Indonesia/Binus School Simprug) tied for 10th with a 12-over 156, making Allegheny the only team with four inside the top 10.
In the team standings, Westminster leapfrogged the Gators to move into first. The Titans carded the best cumulative round of the tournament with a 293 (+5) on Thursday, while the Gators recorded a 308 (+20). With two more rounds to play in the spring portion of the PAC Championships, Westminster is only five strokes ahead of Allegheny, 603-to-608.
