Lightning Halts First Round at NCAA Championships

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. -- Mother Nature interrupted the opening round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Championships at the Mission Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, on Tuesday afternoon.

With 19 of the 43 teams still on the course, all remaining holes from the first round have been rescheduled for Wednesday morning. The second round of 18 will begin immediately following the conclusion of the first round. Details on updated tee times will be announced later this evening.

Although the teams that teed off in the morning were able to play all 18 holes, the Gators didn't have enough time to complete the front nine at the Mission Resort and Club's El Campeon course. Gasparo Porco (Butler, Pa./Knoch), the first Gator on the course, played eight holes before lightning halted action shortly before 3 p.m. Persistent lighting forced tournament organizers to call off the rest of the first round before 4:30 p.m.

Through six holes, Christopher Hoffman (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) is even with four pars and a birdie on the par-4, 425-yard fifth. Connor Bell (Montrose, Colo./Montrose) also earned a birdie on the first hole, a par-5 measuring 505 yards. Dylan Kochis (Saint Augustine, Fla./B. Reed Henderson (Pa.)), who is 2-over through six holes, carded a team-leading five pars. His only blemish was a double bogey on the par-3, 176-yard second.

Among the teams who finished the first round, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps leads the way with a 4-under 284 on El Campeon. Carnegie Mellon University, which played the other preliminary course, Las Colinas, carded a 3-under 281. Kenyon College's Adrian Jordan sits atop the individual leaderboard with a 5-under 67 on El Campeon.

Incomplete First-Round Results
Christopher Hoffman - 5-4-4-4-3-4 - 24 (E)
Dylan Kochis - 5-5-4-4-4-4 - 26 (+2)
Connor Bell - 4-4-5-4-5 - 22 (+2)
Mekayl Maajid - 6-5-4-4-4-5 - 28 (+4)
Gasparo Porco - 5-3-7-4-4-5-4-4 - 36 (+5)
