GENESEO, N.Y. -- In an impressive field filled with nationally-ranked competition, the Allegheny College men's cross country team turned in a 16th-place performance at the 41st Annual Mike Woods Invitational, hosted by 16th-ranked SUNY Geneseo.
Six of the teams that finished inside the top 10 were either in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)Â top-35 or were receiving votes. That includes No. 34 Case Western Reserve University, which won the event with 62 points, No. 16 SUNY Geneseo, No. 29 Middlebury College, and No. 35 Rowan University.
A handful Gators ran eight-kilometer personal records. Leading the way for Allegheny in 78th place out of 365 individual competitors was
Joe McAuliffe (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson), who logged a PR time of 26:37.1. McAuliffe was six places ahead of
Sean Heintzleman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston), who shaved 1.3 seconds off of his previous PR and was clocked at 26:42.7.
Xavier Grove (Pittsburgh, Pa./CAPA) (26:59.8) and
Colm Mulligan (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brookline) (28:37.1) also produced PR times for Allegheny.
