LIGONIER, Pa. -- In its penultimate competition of the Fall season, the Allegheny men's golf team took part in The Tartan Invitational, hosted by Carnegie Mellon at Laurel Valley Golf Club.
In a field which featured some of the top NCAA Division III teams in the country, the Gators placed 13th. Overall, four of the top five -- and seven of the top 10 -- teams in the nation according to the most recent Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) rankings competed in the 54-hole event.
Ryan Dayton (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) paced the Gators by finishing 14th in the individual standings. Dayton completed the event with a three-round score of 232 (76-76-80). The senior was among the scoring leaders on par-3 holes (3.25 +3) and par-5 holes (4.83 -2) and recorded one of just 11 eagles in the tournament.
Carter Hassenplug (North East, Pa./North East) was second for Allegheny at 244 (81-80-83), carding 30 pars over the 54 holes.
Rounding out the Allegheny lineup were
Bergas Anargya (Jakarta, Indonesia/Binus School Simprug) (85-81-82-248),
Tanner Sliker (Edinboro, Pa./Cathedral Prep) (83-89-84-256) and
Alex Lawson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) (89-89-79-257). Lawson joined Dayton in recording an eagle during play.
The Gators will conclude the Fall portion of the 2021-22 season at the Denison Fall Invite Sat.-Sun., Oct. 16-17, which will take place at Cumberland Trail Golf Club in Pataskala, Ohio.
