GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Competition continued Friday (Feb. 15) at the 2020 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Swimming and Diving Championships held at Denison.
After three days of competition, the Gators sit in sixth place with 494.5 points.
The night started with the 200 medley relay. The squad of Daniel Beck (La Canada, Calif./La Canada), Justin Katchur (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield), Pierre Jaeggi (Fountain Valley, Calif./Valian Prep) and Rayshon Knight II (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland) tied for sixth, clocking in at 1:35.82.
The Gators were well represented in the 400 individual medley with three swimmers in the B Final and one in the C Final. Karl Stuntzner-Gibson (North Bend, Ore./North Bend), Logan Indest (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) and Benjamin Blackburn (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) competed in the B Final. Stuntzner-Gibson had the top finish of 4:14.72 to take 14th. Indest was not far behind, finishing at 4:16.51, placing 16th. Blackburn took 18th overall with a time of 4:23.79. Jack Van Meter (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) swam in the C Finals, placing 20th as he finished at 4:17.70.
A trio of Gators made the finals of the 100 butterfly. Knight II and Wil Visnic (Weirton, W.Va./Weir) participated in the B Final. The duo went on to score 15th and 18th, respectively, with times of 52.43 and 53.81. Tucker Harvey (Novelty, Ohio/West Geauga) swam in the C Final, completing the event in 58.40, placing him 25th.
Three more Gators swam in the finals of the 200 freestyle. Jaeggi competed in the B Final and earned a 14th-place showing with a time of 1:45.06. Drew Hrycko (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) and Daniel Logue (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) swam in the C Final, notching times of 1:52.72 and 1:57.32, to place 24th and 27th, respectively.
Katchur highlighted a group of five swimmers in the finals of the 100 breaststroke. Katchur made the A finals of the event, coming in eighth with a time of 56.82. Arcadio Leary-Bignayan III (Seattle, Wash./O'Dea) scored in the B Final at 18th in 1:01.13. Blackburn (20th, 1:01.49), Ben Crowl (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) (25th, 1:06.21) and Batmunkh Munkhjargal (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia) (26th, 1:10.94) qualified for the C Final.
Beck (55.83), Visnic (58.74) and DJ Merchbaker (Cochranton, Pa./Franklin) (58.94) swam in the C Final of the 100 backstroke, coming in at 19th, 24th and 26th.
Men's diving concluded for the event as the one-meter board was contested on Friday night. Hunter Pietrzycki (Parma, Ohio/Parma) represented the Gators and finished in fifth place with an 11-dive finals score of 334.15
The final day of action gets underway at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 with the preliminaries of the 100 individual medley, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, women's three meter dive, 1650 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay. The finals in those same events will begin at 6 p.m.
