NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.— The Allegheny women's swimming and diving team returned to the pool in a dominate fashion Friday (Jan. 10), defeating Westminster 230-68 on the road.
The Gators won all 16 events. The 230 points marks their most in a dual meet in over a decade.
Emily Schaefer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area),
McClaren Rodriguez (Mason City, Iowa/Mason City),
Megan Corletti (Monroeville, Pa./Oakland Catholic),
Sadie Brown (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community) and
Anna Verardi (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) captured first in two individual events apiece.
Schaefer took first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:03.85, as well as the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:19.25. She also placed second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:23.28. Rodriguez excelled in freestyle events, winning the 100 with a time of 56.29 and the 1000 with a time of 11:35.79. Corletti swept the breaststrokes, taking the 100 with a time of 1:12.71 and the 200 with a time of 2:36.98. Brown won a pair of sprints, finishing first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.10 and the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.37.
Anna Verardi swept the backstrokes, winning the 100 with a time of 1:02.23 and the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:16.21.
Hannah Tonsmann (Bainbridge, Wash./Bainbridge) and
Aimee Verardi (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) each had a first and second place finish.
Tonsmann won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:35.00 and took second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04.08.
Aimee Verardi captured first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:19.11 and second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.00.
Ariana Clark (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) finished second in the 100 (1:03.78) and 200 backstroke (2:19.40).
Maggie Baham (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) also had a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100 (1:04.39) and 200 butterfly (2:22.41).
Alyson Codner (Harvard, Mass./The Bromfield School) took second in the 1000 freestyle (11:48.09) while
Miranda Farley (Cleveland, Ohio/North Royalton) had an identical finish in the 100 freestyle (57.88).
The 200 medley relay team of
Anna Verardi, Tonsmann, Brown and Rodriguez won with a time of 1:53.92, while the 200 freestyle relay team of Brown,
Aimee Verardi,
Anna Verardi and Rodriguez won with a time of 1:42.66.
On the one meter diving board,
Chelsea Pietrzycki (Parma, Ohio/Parma) won with a score of 251.65, while
Brionna Litwin (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) finished second with a score of 240.65. Litwin won the three meter board with a score of 236.85, while Pietrzycki finished fourth on the board.
The Gators are back in action next Saturday (Jan. 18) when they travel to Wooster.
