Box Score MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny women's tennis team defeated Washington & Jefferson college, 8-1, in
Taylor Coffman's head coaching debut.
The Gators swept the Presidents in doubles. Both the second doubles pair of
Amanda Ress Liere (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood) and
Ella Swan (Nashville, Tenn./Hume-Fogg Academic) and the third doubles pair of
Miharu Koh (Tokyo, Japan/Monta Vista (Calif.)) and
Taylor Hayes (Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community) cruised to 8-2 wins. Trailing 7-6, the first doubles team of
Katherine Marks (Argyle, Texas/Liberty Christian) and
Gaby DeLeon (Weatherford, Texas/Weatherford) won the 14th game, forcing a tiebreaker. The Gators were able to break the Presidents early and take the tiebreaker 7-3 and complete the doubles sweep.
In singles play, singles number two DeLeon won a competitive match with sets of 6-4 and 6-3. Ress Liere captured both sets 6-2 and 6-0, while Koh won with sets of 6-1 and 6-2. Swan took her singles match handedly, winning both sets 6-0. Hayes also earned the win with 6-1 and 6-3 showings.
Marks battled against W&J's Maya Krishnasamy in both sets, but eventually fell by scores of 6-4 in both.
