WOOSTER, Ohio -- Sophomore
Jack O'Leary (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) finished tied for seventh to pace the Allegheny men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Nye Intercollegiate hosted by Wooster.
The event was hosted at Wooster Country Club, which played to a par-72. Originally scheduled for 36 holes over two days, the tournament saw day two shortened to just nine holes to a 27-hole event. Allegheny finished with a +26 458 (310-148), just two stokes out of third place. Denison won the team title at +5 437 (294-143). The Big Red's Ben Scherman shot par on both days (72-36), while Baldwin Wallace's Roni Shin also shot even (74-34) to tie atop the leaderboard.
O'Leary was one of six golfers to finish tied for seventh as he posted a +5 113 behind a four-over 76 on Saturday and a one-over 37 on Sunday. Freshman
Alex Lawson (Pittsbugh, Pa./Fox Chapel) was one stroke behind O'Leary at +6 114, which placed him in a six-way tie for 13th. Lawson also scored one over on Sunday, but was +5 77 on 18 holes Saturday.
Sophomore
Matthew Del Rosso (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) continued the one-stroke back pattern as he tied with three others in 19th at +7 115 (79-36). Rookies
Ryan Dayton (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) and
Tyler Pham (Pembroke Pines, Fla./The Sagemont School) equaled one another on 27 holes as both shot +10 118. Dayton used a 78 and then 40, while Pham went 80-38.
Allegheny has a quick turnaround before hitting the course at Whispering Woods Country Club for the Gannon Spring Invitational on Thursday, April 18.
