MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny women's swimming and diving team opened the home and dual meet portions of their schedule as they faced Division-II Clarion University at the Mellon Pool Friday (Oct. 18).
The Gators, who entered the meet ranked 25
th-nationally in the Division-III College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Dual Meet Preseason Pool, defeated the Golden Eagles 156-144. In total, the Gators won nine individual races.
A trio of Gators won a pair of races each. Reigning NCAC Athlete of the Week
Hannah Tonsmann picked up wins in the 500- and 1000-yard freestyles with times of 5:27.83 and 11:06.93, respectively. She also finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.88.
Anna Verardi swept the backstrokes as she won the 100-yard with a time of 1:01.04 and the 200-yard with a time of 2:13.68.
Sadie Brown won a pair of sprints as she captured first-place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.09, as well as the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.51.
McClaren Rodriguez won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.79 while also finishing runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.91) and the 1000-yard freestyle (11:22.13).
Miranda Farley won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.38 and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:36.05.
Emily Schaefer took first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:17.70, also placing second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:34.86.
Aimee Verardi placed second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:16.33 while
Maggie Baham placed second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:19.97.
Rachel Tobler (2:23.91),
Megan Corletti (2:39.20) and
Maddie Janvrin (2:15.20) had third-place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard backstroke, respectively.
The 200-yard medley relay team of
Anna Verardi, Corletti,
Aimee Verardi and Brown finished second with a time of 1:54.85, while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Brown,
Anna Verardi,
Aimee Verardi and Rodriguez finished in second with a time of 1:41.04.
In the diving portion of the dual,
Chelsea Pietrzycki finished third in the one-meter (209.47) and fourth in the three-meter (198.60), while
Brionna Litwin finished third in the three-meter (207.22) and fourth in the one-meter (201.52).
The Gators are back in Meadville next Saturday (Oct. 26) when they play host to Grove City College.
