FREDONIA, N.Y.—The Allegheny College women's swimming team picked up the first-place title at the Fredonia State Blue Devil Invitational Saturday (Dec. 8).
The Gators led at the end of each of the three days, finishing the event with 1,040 points. Penn State Behrend finished in second with 556 points. Host Fredonia State took third with a score of 528. Alfred State finished fourth with 523 points while SUNY Brockport rounded out the field with 508 points.
In the morning session,
Alyson Codner took third in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 19:27.04.
Claire Collier also finished in the top-eight, taking sixth with a time of 19:53.71.
Rachel Montgomery took 12
th with a time of 20:44.04.
Anna Verardi picked up a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke to kick-off the evening session, clocking in at 2:06.06.
Maddie Janvrin was not far behind in second, finishing with a time of 2:08.98.
Megan Munzek also swam in the finals, taking seventh with a time of 2:22.12.
A trio of Gators swam in the finals of the 100-yard freestyle.
McClaren Rodriguez won the event with a time of 54.01.
Aimee Verardi took third with a time of 54.76.
Savannah Plaskon also finished in the top-eight, placing sixth with a time of 56.33.
Paige Pethel competed in the B-Final of the event, taking 16th with a time of 1:01.11.
The Gators also had three compete in the finals of the 200-yard breaststroke.
Lauren Isaacs picked up another Allegheny win, as she clocked in at 2:27.90.
Megan Corletti was the runner-up with a time of 2:30.17.
Rachel Montgomery finished eighth with a time of 2:59.15.
Emily Schaefer won the 200-yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 2:12.45.
Rachel Tobler was just behind as she took second with a time of 2:16.23.
The Gators closed the Blue Devil Invitational in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The squad of
Miranda Farley,
Anna Verardi,
Aimee Verardi and Rodriguez won with a time of 3:34.69. That time broke the old pool record in the event and just missed setting a Gator record.
The Gators are off until January 12, when they play host to Saint Vincent College.
