Gators Down Saint Joseph's (NY) 16-10

Box Score HILTON HEAD, S.C.—The Allegheny College women's lacrosse team picked up a 16-10 win over Saint Joseph's of Long Island in Hilton Head, S.C. Monday (March 20).

Katie Weiss led the Gators with three goals and three assists. Maddie Olson had three goals, all on free-position shots.  Shelby Piper had two goals and two assists.  Alex Zielinski and Jeannie Kirk had a pair of goals apiece.  Jessie Theissen and Alexa Maloney had a goal and an assist each. Laurence Busque and Christine McGrath had a goal while Sarah Basden and Alina Nieratko had assists.

Kaelin Clogan made seven saves.

The Gators scored the opening two goals of the game.  The first came by Weiss off an assist from Thiessen and the second on an Olson free-position shot.  After a goal from the Hawks, the Gators rattled off seven straight goals.  The first of two of the seven came off the sticks of Olson and Weiss.  Piper then found the back of the net off an assist by Weiss.  After Weiss scored on a Basden assist, Zielinkski score back-to-back goals, the first of which was assisted by Maloney.  Busque then scored the seventh goal on a free-position shot. 

The Hawks responded with three straight goals to bring the game within five, 9-4.

Thiessen increased the lead to five with a goal on a Nieratko assist but Saint Joseph's scored the final two goals to cut the lead to 10-6 at the break.
Maloney opened up the second half with a goal off an assist from Piper but the Hawks made up some ground with a pair of goals.  The Gators regained their composure and scored four straight goals to regain momentum.  Piper scored the first, followed by Kirk on a Weiss assist.  After Olson scored her third goal of the afternoon, Kirk scored her second, assisted by Piper, to make it 16-8.

McGrath scored off an assist by Weiss later in the half as the Gators secured the win.

Thiessen and Kirk had a pair of groundballs apiece.  In addition to the groundballs, Thiessen also had a team-high four draw controls.
