HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Allegheny College men's tennis team got back on track with a narrow 5-4 victory over No. 11 regionally-ranked Carleton College this morning to close the program's annual spring break trip.
Allegheny swept all three doubles matches and received wins in second and third-flight singles to claim the match victory.
Jai Redkar was one of two Gators to earn wins in both singles and doubles play. Redkar knocked off Jordon O'Kelly in second-flight singles, 6-4, 6-2, and teamed up with
Thomas Manning to pick up an 8-3 victory in top-flight doubles against O'Kelly and Erik Johnson.
Tyler Triolo was also victorious in both singles and doubles action, first tallying am 8-4 win with
Zach Anderson over the duo of Ezra Frankel and Aaron Goodman in second-flight doubles. Triolo added a straight-sets singles victory in the third flight, defeating Andrew Qi, 7-6, 6-2.
The senior team of
Samarth Gopal and
Andreas Landgrebe tallied an 8-4 win in third-flight doubles to earn the sweep in that portion of the match. Gopal and Landgrebe defeated Christian Nagy and Kevin Hurley to give the Gators a 3-0 lead going into singles play.
Redkar and Triolo finished their singles bouts first to clinch the victory for Allegheny. Manning battled Kevin Mei in top-flight singles but fell 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) despite forcing a third set.
Allegheny returns to action on Saturday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m. when it travels to Wittenburg University.
