VIENNA, Ohio -- The three-time defending Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) champion Allegheny College men's tennis team opened its conference schedule Friday with a 7-0 shutout over Waynesburg University on the indoor courts at Avalon at Squaw Creek.
The Gators (8-7, 1-0 PAC) earned their third consecutive victory with an impressive performance against the Yellow Jackets. Allegheny, which lost no more than two games in any of the nine matches played, outscored Waynesburg 18-4 in doubles action and 72-7 in singles.
The team's top duo, sophomores
Levente Mihaly (Békéscsaba, Hungary/Békéscsabai SZC Széchenyi István) and
Olivier Erkens (Gouda, Netherlands/Coornhert Gymnasium), blanked Ethan Clawson and Thomas Torcaso. In singles, junior
Javier Bejarano Jimenez (El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma) and freshman
Zidaan Hassan (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) defeated their opponents, 6-0, 6-0, in the third and fifth matches.
Rounding out Allegheny's lineup was senior
Mitchell Curtis (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora), who appeared in his first matches since the Blue and Gold Invite with Case Western Reserve University on September 20. Curtis was a double winner on Friday, highlighted by a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Torcaso in the No. 6 singles bout.
