BOSTON, Mass. – On a day in which every Allegheny runner set personal records, senior
Taylor Throckmorton delivered the most thunderous performance after breaking school records in the 200-meter and 400m events at Boston University's Valentine Invitational.
Throckmorton improved upon his existing record in the open quarter, splitting 49.09 to finish second in his section. Throckmorton, whose effort marked the third-fastest Division III time at the meet, was clipped by .01 seconds at the finish by John Haley of league-rival Wabash. Throckmorton's big run was good enough for 25th overall in a field of 172 runners that included numerous professionals and Division I national qualifiers.
Not content, Throckmorton re-etched his name in Allegheny's all-time annals by smashing the school record in the 200m. Taking advantage of a strong start, Throckmorton raced to a win in his section while breaking the tape in 22.29, nearly one-half second ahead of the existing mark.
Throckmorton closed out his spectacular day by finishing 25th overall in the long jump (20'3.5”), although he passed on his final attempt.
In other highlights, junior
Bobby Over won the third section of the 5,000m behind an inspiring kick. Outdueling Max Robinson of John Hopkins University, Over crossed the finish in 14:52.26, an indoor personal best and the sixth-fastest Division III time recorded at the meet.
Patrick McLaughlin also pieced together a good race in the 5k. The senior First Team All-Conference performer held off several unattached competitors and Denison's Alexander Chappars to finish 10th in the final section of the 5,000m with a time of 15:26.45.
Mike Vlah, who ignited the Gators' record-breaking performance in the distance medley relay at the same meet last year, finished sixth in his section of the 800m after authoring a season-best 1:56.04 to finish 67th overall out of 215 runners.
