TRAFFORD, Pa. -- Zidaan Hassan (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) of the Allegheny College men's tennis team was crowned the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Newcomer of the Week following the Gators' spring break trip in Central Florida.

Against a schedule that included two nationally-ranked opponents, a Division II foe, and a Trine University team that entered the match with one loss, Hassan posted a 5-4 overall record with a 3-2 mark in singles competition.

He won both matches against D-II Michigan Tech with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles and a 6-1 triumph in the third doubles slot. Hassan split his matches against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a 7-6 (6), 2-6, 1-0 (0) victory at No. 5 singles. He also picked up two wins to lead the Gators to a 5-2 defeat of the Trine Thunder, including a 6-0, 6-3 win in his No. 4 singles contest.

Hassan and the Gators will return to competition on Saturday, March 21, with a home match against the University of Rochester at noon.
