Men's Tennis Faces Tough Competition at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio --
The Allegheny College men's tennis team went head-to-head with several tough teams from the Central Region at the Oberlin Invitational, hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday and Sunday.

The Gators ground out 15 total wins against opponents from Case Western Reserve University, Oberlin, Ohio Northern University and the University of Chicago. They also faced a pair of Division II programs in Tiffin University and the University of Findlay.

Junior Olivier Erkens (Gouda, Netherlands/Coornhert Gymnasium) excelled against the elevated competition, going 5-0 with two singles wins and three doubles wins. He took down both Langston Walter-Wu from Case Western Reserve and Joel Park from Chicago in super tiebreakers, beating Walter-Wu by a 10-7 score and defeating Park, 10-3. In doubles, Erkens and partner Levente Mihaly (Békéscsaba, Hungary/Békéscsabai SZC Széchenyi István) defeated two duos from Oberlin, in addition to dropping CWRU's Glen Ngo and Shay Gupta, 6-4.

Logan Memije (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway), Steven Fitzsimmons (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis), Paxton Garland-Sutter (Rochester, Ill./Rochester), and Reid Stasolla (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) also earned super tiebreak wins. Memije's singles triumph came against D-II Findlay's Nicolo Lippolis, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8.
