Women's Golf Begins Spring Season at Pennsylvania Classic

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. --
The Allegheny College women's golf team logged two top-15 finishes in its spring debut at the Pennsylvania Classic, held at the Penn State White Course in State College, Pennsylvania, on Saturday and Sunday.

Senior Josephine Corey (Lakewood, N.Y. Southwestern Central) and sophomore Ada Coté (West Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) led the Allegheny foursome by tying for 12th and 15th place, respectively. Corey, who birdied a par-5 in each round, carded scores of 85 and 86 for a 36-hole total of 171 (+27). Coté was only four strokes behind her teammate with a 175 (+31). She shaved three strokes off of her score during the final round, highlighted by a birdie on the par-3 seventh.

As a team, the Gators placed sixth overall out of the 11 Pennsylvania-based programs at the event. After posting a 383 (+95) on Saturday, Allegheny cut nine strokes off of its cumulative score for a 374 (+86) on Sunday. Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Washington and Jefferson College claimed the team championship with a two-day total of 661 (+85), followed closely by Susquehanna University (668, +92) in second and Westminster College (673, +97) in third.

The Allegheny women's golf team is slated to compete in the Greenbrier Intercollegiate Women's Invitational, hosted by Southern Virginia University at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The two-day tournament begins on Monday, April 6.
