MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's swimming and diving team split Saturday's home tri-meet with a 147-106 win over Fredonia State and a 179.5-103.5 loss to Baldwin Wallace University.
The Gators (2-1) earned 12 wins or runner-up performances across 14 swimming events against the Blue Devils (1-2) and Yellow Jackets (4-0). That included wins in both relays, as the 200-yard medley quartet beat BWU by a little more than two seconds and the 200-yard freestyle team led the Yellow Jackets by more than seven seconds.
Every relay swimmer also placed first in an individual race. First-year
Ellen Shaffer (Williamstown, N.J./Gloucester County Institute of Technology) made her collegiate debut by leading both relay teams and winning the 50-yard backstroke in 30.02 seconds.
Emily Arendas (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) swam the second leg of the relays and won the 100-yard breaststroke.
Kerrigan Swartz (Brookville, Pa./Brookville Area) closed the relay wins and was first out of nine in the 100-yard freestyle.
