MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's swimming and diving team made a splash in its season-opening win over Hiram College, defeating the Terriers 95-55 Saturday afternoon at Mellon Pool.
Allegheny (1-0) was victorious in all but one event it competed in. Six different Gators posted a first-place performance, highlighted by junior
Emily Arendas (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) with two individual wins.
Arendas, who also swam on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team, was first in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke. She was 2.33 seconds faster than Hiram's (0-1) Avery Clay in the freestyle and less than a second quicker than teammate
Grace Melocchi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) in the breaststroke.
Magnolia Myers (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Our Lady of the Elms) and
Kerrigan Swartz (Brookville, Pa./Brookville Area) made up half of both relay teams. The Gators were uncontested in the 200-yard medley, but beat the Terriers by nearly 12 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle.
