Bell Claims Individual Medalist Honors at Kuhn Invitational

Complete Results

MEADVILLE, Pa. --
A strong second-round performance by Connor Bell (Montrose, Colo./Montrose) led the Allegheny College junior to individual medalist honors at the annual Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational at the Country Club of Meadville.

Bell ended Sunday's round in a tie for sixth place and was four strokes behind the tournament leader with a 2-over 74. He erased the deficit with a career performance during the second round on Monday. He was par or better on 17 holes with six birdies. Bell took an outright lead over the 64-man field with a birdie on the par-three eighth, his second-to-last hole. However, Carnegie Mellon University's Will Blankenship, one of Bell's partners, birdied the par-five ninth to move into a two-way tie for the lead.

Although Bell and Blankenship recorded the best two rounds of the day, Bell earned individual medalist honors via the tournament tiebreaker, which went to the player with the best final-round score. Both players logged a cumulative 141 (-3), but Bell carded a 5-under 67 on Monday, while Blankenship fired a 3-under 69.

As a team, Bell's Gators finished second to Blankenship's teammates from the CMU "B" squad. The Tartans were 11 strokes ahead of Allegheny with a 578 (+2), while the Gators posted a cumulative 589 (+13). Wittenberg University's "B" team wasn't far behind in third place at 592 (+16).

Senior Dylan Kochis (Saint Augustine, Fla./B. Reed Henderson (Pa.)) also placed inside the top 10 with matching rounds of 74 (+2). Kochis, who was in a three-way tie for seventh place, collected three birdies on Sunday and two more on Monday. With storms quickly approaching, he managed to eagle the ninth and complete his final round minutes before heavy rainfall saturated the course.
