PAC Release
TRAFFORD, Pa. -- For the second time this season, the Allegheny College women's tennis team earned both weekly awards from the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
Following a shutout win against Westminster College in the PAC opener and a strong showing at the Wooster Invitational over the weekend,
Evie Ellenberger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and
Gabrielle Bassette (Miami, Fla./Miami Country Day School) were named the conference's Player and Newcomer of the Week, respectively.
As a duo, Ellenberger and Bassette were undefeated last week with six doubles wins while outscoring opponents 36-10. Against Westminster, they took down Westminster's top tandem of Christine Rossi and Megan Blasko, 6-1. At the Wooster Invitational, Ellenberger and Bassette won all five doubles matches, including a 6-0 triumph over Otterbein University's Breanna Ball and Daniela De Mata.
Individually, Ellenberger went 3-0 in singles competition at Wooster. She defeated Elyse Errington of Wooster, 8-1, in an eight-game pro set on Saturday and added a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Otterbein's Niya Bell on Sunday. Bassette added four singles wins last week, highlighted by a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Westminster's Rossi in the No. 1 spot and a marathon 5-7, 7-6 (3), 14-12 super tiebreak win on Sunday against Otterbein's De Mata.
Allegheny returns to action for a rematch of the 2024 PAC championship against Franciscan University at the Robertson Athletic Complex on Tuesday, September 16, at 4:30 p.m.
