BOARDMAN, Ohio --
The Allegheny College men's golf team moved one step closer to defending its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) title by extending its lead during the third round at the 2025 PAC Spring Championships on a rainy Friday at the Mill Creek South Golf Course.

Last spring, the Gators were forced to battle from second place on the final day of competition to surpass Washington and Jefferson College for the championship. However, Allegheny currently sits 31 strokes ahead of Westminster College and 33 in front of W&J in third place. Although the Titans had the best round at 292 (+12), Westminster had to use its advantage to make up ground and overtake the Presidents for second place.

Two-time individual medalist Carter Hassenplug (North East, Pa./North East) remains the only golfer below par for the entire three rounds, including the fall portion of the PAC championships from October. Hassenplug logged a 2-over 72, the third-best score of the day. He had two birdies on the par-4 eighth and par-5 14th and was consistent with a 1-over 36 on both halves of the course.

Hassenplug will look for his third consecutive individual crown with a seven-stroke lead over his teammate, Zachary Melzar (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional). Melzar led all Gators with three birdies and a 1-over 71, which helped the senior climb ahead of Matt Edwards of Saint Vincent College from third to second place. Struggling in the wet conditions, Edwards was 10 over on Friday, allowing Melzar to take a seven-stroke lead over the Bearcats' top performer for the runner-up spot.

Connor Bell (Montrose, Colo./Montrose) posted a 4-over 74, his best of the tournament so far, which allowed the sophomore to jump from 10th into a tie for fourth with Grove City College's Adam Steinmetz and Westminster's Tyler Hager. Junior transfer Dylan Kochis (Saint Augustine, Fla./B. Reed Henderson (Pa.)) and senior Nadir Khan (Karachi, Pakistan/Karachi Grammar School) are both in position to earn All-PAC accolades in ninth and 13th place, respectively.
