Gator Tennis Teams Garner National Rankings

ITA Rankings

MEADVILLE, Pa. --
For the second week in a row, the Allegheny College tennis teams appear in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III rankings.

The most recent edition of the ITA's national polls, which were published on Wednesday, April 9, list the Allegheny men and women teams at No. 63 in the country. The week before, on April 2, the women's tennis was ranked No. 49, while the men were only one spot behind at No. 50. The Gators are the only Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) teams in either top-75 poll.

After winning the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) title in the fall, the Allegheny women's tennis team is preparing for its second NCAA Tournament run next month. The Gators, who are 18-5 overall, were undefeated against conference opponents and beat Westminster College and Franciscan University in the PAC Championships. Allegheny has two regular-season matches remaining before the NCAA Tournament, including a showdown with No. 7 Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, April 12, at 2:00 p.m. at the Robertson Athletic Complex.

The men's tennis team has won eight consecutive matches and opened its PAC slate with five wins in a row. All five conference wins have come in shutout fashion with a 7-0 final score. The only losses Allegheny has suffered since the New Year have come against top-25 teams, including Carnegie Mellon University, Case Western Reserve University, and Kenyon College. With three PAC contests left on the docket, the Gators look poised to make a run at a third consecutive PAC championship.
