LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's golf team placed two inside the top 10 in a competitive field at The Gauntlet, a two-day tournament held at the Bucknell Golf Club on Sunday and Monday.

Seniors Carter Hassenplug (North East, Pa./North East) and Zachary Melzar (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional) each carded rounds of 69 (-1), and both finished in a tie for ninth place out of 75 individuals. Melzar fired his 69 in the opening round on Sunday, thanks partly to a strong showing with eight pars and one birdie on the back nine. On Monday, Hassenplug had four birdies, the most by a Gator in a single round at the tournament, which led to his 1-under round.

Hassenplug and Melzar tied three other golfers with a final score of 142 (+2), seven strokes behind individual medalist Collin McMahon-Shea of Dickinson College. McMahon-Shea fired a 65 (-5) and 70 (E) for a cumulative 135 (-5).

In his first event as a Gator, junior transfer Dylan Kochis (Saint Augustine, Fla./North Florida) played 36 impressive holes. After a 75 (+5) on Sunday, he was even on Monday with 13 pars, three birdies, and only two bogeys. Playing as an individual, Kochis placed 15th with a total score of 145 (+5).

As a team, Allegheny earned the same score in both rounds with a 16-over 296. In a tournament that featured 2024 NCAA Championship qualifiers such as Penn State Altoona, York College of Pennsylvania, Franklin and Marshall College, Pennsylvania College of Technology, and Stevens Institute of Technology, the Gators placed eighth out of 14 with a cumulative 592 (+32).
