MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Twenty-one members of the Allegheny College baseball program are spending their summer honing their skills on the diamond by suiting up for summer ball teams across the country.

Summer ball provides student-athletes an opportunity to compete with and against other collegiate athletes from all levels of the NCAA, NAIA, and junior college baseball.

Although some Gators have traveled far to find a team, local product Dawson Thomas (Conneaut, Pa./Conneaut Area) stayed home to play for Meadville ONE's senior legion team this year. After a successful freshman season, he's continued to excel on the mound. Thomas recently tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts in a 4-1 win over Wesleyville and notched five scoreless in a 3-0 shutout of McDowell.

A quartet of Gators - Matt Jennings (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice), Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel (Texas)), Cole Litman (Youngstown, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney), and Tyler Skaggs (Champion Heights, Ohio/Champion) - are in New York's Finger Lakes region, playing for the Geneva Red Wings of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL). Jennings and Skaggs ranked among the team's offensive leaders with batting averages above .300. Bryant-Dawson slugged a grand slam, his first home run of the summer, against Batavia on July 2. On the mound, Litman earned wins in two of his first three relief appearances.

Tommy Landsnes (Richmond, Va./Brunswick Academy) is also swinging the bat well for the Kinston Wingmen of the North Carolina-based Old North State League. As of July 3, Landsnes boasts a .367 batting average and OPS of .937.
