PAC Release
TRAFFORD, Pa. -- The Allegheny College baseball team earned two weekly awards from the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) for the week of March 2-8.
Sophomore
Parker McRay (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) was named the PAC Pitcher of the Week, and freshman
Zach Miner (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) was crowned the PAC Newcomer of the Week.
On the mound, McRay earned his second win of the spring in the longest outing of his career in Allegheny's 9-6 win against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology during the team's spring break trip in Florida. The second-year southpaw scattered four hits and one walk over 7.0 scoreless innings. He also tied a season high with six strikeouts. McRay picked off a runner at first in the first inning, faced the minimum in the first three innings, and retired the Fightin' Engineers 1-2-3 in the fifth.
Miner did a little bit of everything for the Gators in five games last week. At the dish, he was second on the team with seven hits while batting .389 with four runs and three RBIs. He was 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI in a 14-13 victory over the University of Dubuque in Florida. Miner also saved the game on the mound with 3.0 scoreless innings and two strikeouts. Against Rose-Hulman, he finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and in Saturday's 14-1 blowout victory over Fredonia State, he logged a season-high three hits. Miner was also perfect in the field while covering both corner bases.
McRay, Miner, and the rest of the Gators will travel to the College of Wooster on Wednesday, March 11, for a 3 p.m. non-conference contest.
